Global Sourcing is responsible for the procurement of project material & equipments for various ongoing projects in the field of steel, power, energy, pipeline along with all other group companies. Global Sourcing was conceived with an idea to leverage volume based procurement by consolidating groups requirement. Global sourcing facilitates import of goods to be in the reach of several small and medium enterprises in different countries.

Global Sourcing Division (GSD), the procurement arm of Essar Constructions (India) Limited, is an ISO 9001- 2000 certified by Bureau Veritas Certification for procurement of project materials and equipments. With over two years of operation GSD has become an integral part of procurement horizon in Essar group and has been a forerunner in the sourcing domain. It was the first to upgrade to SAP ECC6 and lead the initiative of Material and Vendor unification which has resulted in a major thrust in development of market and common understanding across the group. With the mission to achieve excellence in the field of Engineering, and Procurement through world class practices and standards in Quality, using state of art tools & techniques of Project Management / IT services, GSD has taken group wide IT initiatives like consolidation across the group, Tendering & E-bidding – which has now been outsourced to Aegis.

As a result of these strategies, today we can access markets in a cost effective manner with by removing the barriers of differences in costs, total acquisition cost, consolidation, life cycle cost and common platform for all geographical locations etc.

All the departments of GSD - Commodity Groups, Vendor Management, Inspection & Expediting, logistics, Internal Audit and IT & systems respectively operate as per the SOP defined for the respective function. GSD has taken many group wide initiatives & Operates under resourceful environment & has maintained a competitive edge over others by operating in following Key business areas,

  • Direct and measurable reductions in sourcing cost through induction of spend data analysis & life cycle costing concepts
  • Equipped with new generation IT tools like Project management and planning tools, Budget cost control, SAP, Tendering & E-bidding
  • Unification of vendors and item catalog across the group.
